Yes: it's not quite consistent with what The Guardian had on its site, is it? As Ninj said, though, you can't see who said that. However, it still seems to me that whoever said it has a case to answer.

Watching it again, you can't see who is saying it but it does sound pretty bad. It does sound like Gibbs too....

Correct me if I'm wrong, guys, but the last two words he said seem to me to have been 'F***ing Pakistanis'.

If he said that, then that is racist. Anybody who denigrates a national grouping has said something racist, whether it is Pakistani, English, Australian or West Indian.

If that is what was said, I can't see Gibbs' appeal succeeding.

That's what it sounds like. Can't tell if it was Gibbs who said it. The appeal, it seems to me, is a mere tactic to suspend the sentence so that he can play in the next two tests.

I suppose Gibbs would rather play the Tests, and miss the ODIs, if necessary. Alternately, the group matches of the WC are unlikely to be serious, Australia aside, so South Africa should advance to the super Eight, with or without Gibbs.

It's more likely (though not guaranteed) that, if his sentence is confirmed, he will serve a test ban rather than ODIs. That is the usual arrangement (though not always used). So he is saving himself for this series and effectively risking being suspended for the next one, whoever that is against.

Though wasn't Inzi banned from some ODIs after the Oval, and not any Tests ?

An interesting South African perspective on the matter can be read here.

He was the case I had in mind, but as I was not 100% sure, I named no names. In any case, if you are right, this is an example to demonstrate the point I made.
