Future Team Captains?

Alot of the top 8's captain's will be approaching their retirement soon, and i was wondering who would succeed them?

Has anyone got any ideas?

Micheal Clarke will one day be captain of Australia or Cameron White if he is good enough to be a regular test player.

West Indies - after Lara retires, it will be Chandrapaul for a while and then Chris Gayle.

Australia - Ponting has a few years left in him, but I agree that Clarke might be in the running if he continues to mature.

South Africa - Graeme Smith is very young for a captain and he will remain. SA cricket is a different kettle of fish and they need his sort of pushy leadership for a few more years.

England - When Vaughan retires, which might be sooner than expected if his body keeps breaking down, I hope Paul Collingwood takes over.

New Zealand: Fleming will hand the reins over to Vettori.

Sri Lanka: Jayawardane will continue for a while and it is a bit early to speculate on younger players, but Dilshan looks promising.

Pakistan: Younis Khan will take over from Inzamam. He is mentally tougher than the fragile Mohammed Yousef, whose batting is likely to suffer if he is handed the captaincy.

India: Your guess is as good as mine. 4 experienced seniors - Kumble, Tendulkar, Ganguly & Dravid - are going to retire soon; of those left, none is consistent enough even to be certain of his own place, let alone be considered for leading the side. Handing the captaincy to Sehwag could be suicidal while I don't think Yuvraj has the necessary skills for leadership. It will be a lottery.

We will go for Strauss,he has done it before and was successful and he can easily take Vaughan's place in the one day side.I would be amazed if Collingwood became our captain on anything other than a temporary basis.

After Lara goes it will be a straight choice between Sarwan and Gayle.

Outside shot for the Test captaincy would be Daren Ganga.

Chanderpaul should be nowhere near selection for either post.

Maybe, but captaincy is not starightforward with the "West Indies" where several nations are involved. Unless there is a very strong reason not to do so, seniority is an important issue.

Maybe so, but seniority did not help Desmond Haynes when he should have been captain or Hooper over Lara.

Sarwan has been the VC for so long now that if he doesn't get it now then there will be outrage IMO.

Chanderpaul had his go and he was weak. His personality does not suit captaincy.

Perhaps there were 'strong reasons' for not offering Haynes the captaincy.

OK, but I feel that Sarwan himself will suffer under the strain of captaincy, even if offered. His batting has not lived upto the initial promise and could get worse under the burden.

Agreed. I still think he might be offered the job.

Clarke for aussie captain would be interesting. I know that even before his australian debut he was being touted as a future captain.

It was really india that sparked my making of this thread. I mean, whoever becomes the next captain will be a huge risk! I am so excited as to who they choose!
