The most detestable journalist in world cricket...

...has to be Peter Roebuck. Sorry, just have to vent my spleen. I read this article ealier in the week and it really got my goat. At a time when the vast majority of the media were respectful of Bob Woolmer's sad demise and avoiding major speculation as to the cause of it until the facts emerged, good old Roebuck puts the boot in with his usual hammy prose, and as it transpires is so wide of the mark (with respect to the cause of his death) as to be laughable. The first line referring to Bob as an overweight, shattered figure (bear in mind this scant hours after Bob's death) is just plain despicable, and the article which follows in that vein all the way through is the work of a seriously bitter and twisted individual.

I just read the article and the majority of it was a well-written overview of Woolmer's career and impressions of his playing and coaching style. He didn't speculate at the cause of death, rather he quoted Britain's Daily Mirror:
Quote:
Britain's Daily Mirror said his death was caused by an overdose of prescription medicine and alcohol, but his family pointed to stress.
I agree that his remark: "overweight, shattered figure", was insensitive but the overall tenor of the article conveyed respect for Woolmer.
