Bob Woolmer "was not murdered": Scotland Yard

According to this report from the BBC, Scotland Yard investigators have now told the Jamaican authorities that Bob Woolmer was not murdered. I have not, at this stage, seen any announcement from the Jamaican authorities regarding this (nor anything official yet from Scotland Yard), but the wording of the BBC's report is pretty strong and I doubt they have got their report wrong.

According to the Torygraph, the Jamaican police will announce next week that Woolmer died from a heart attack , thus acknowledging that they made a 'big mistake'.

A review of the original autopsy by Nat Carey, a Home Office pathologist, and, it is believed, an American expert supported the suggestion of natural causes. The broken neck bone was consistent with a fall on to a hard surface.

The spotlight is now set to fall on the role played during the investigation by Mr Shields, and the conduct of Dr Ere Seshaiah, the Kingston pathologist who is now under scrutiny after a review of his autopsy report concluded he was wrong to suggest Mr Woolmer was strangled.

I refused to comment on this subject for this very reason - i was'nt completely sure one way or another. I am still unsure.

I feel very sorry for Pakistani's though. Regardless of what did or did not happen, i felt they were being unfairly besmirched by certain sections of the media.

There's room for a lot of sympathy for a lot of people, Seamer, I agree - not the least being Woolmer's widow and family. What a bloody mess, really.

I watched this report on BBC News 24, and Scotland yard did not think Woolmer had been murdered, he did in fact suffer from life treatening conditions. mainly Diabetes and an Enlarged Heart.
Also Scotland Yard made the point Woolmer was a large man who would have struggled for his life, and his body did not show signs of a struggle through injury.
I think the odds on death by natural causes has risen to 99%, with a large population in the UK, and a much larger incidence of violent crime - Scotland Yard should have a good idea if a person had been murdered or died of natural causes.

A mess indeed. A local paper quotes Gill Woolmer today as being "surprised" at this latest development.

Speculation on the cause of death is one thing, but to state that he was first strangled and then poisoned, which toxicology reports apparently confirmed, is a joke.

Poor Mrs Woolmer. To lose your husband suddenly is appalling. To then find out he's been murdered is even worse, but to then - 8 weeks later - discover that someone somewhere has completely fouled up the investigation, must be almost too much to cope with.

Heads to roll?

According to the latest reports (Daily Mail) it seems like Deputy Shields and the pathologist Dr Sheshaiah may lose their jobs over this "bungle". (if indeed the Jamaican police does confirm no foul play in Woolmer's murder)

I really cant see how a THIRD pathology report will give them anything new that the previous 2 did not.

I dont know RJ. I do love a conspiracy theory or 2...I watched Fahrentheit 9/11 3 times...

But I dont think this is one. Just a gut feeling. Bob was not well as everybody knows. He was overweight and had diabetes and a heart condition. That is some combination....Trust me, I know.

So, if one wants to put the blame on something, blame The Media

It was the media who started the story about a book Bob was writing revealing match fixing (not true)
It was the media who started the stories on a fatwa on Bob because he did not "agree with the religious fervour of the Pakistan team".
It was the media who came up with the poison theories.

None of these came from the Jamaican police as far as I know...
