Agnew v Richards - What happened?

On Saturday I switched on the radio 4 test match commentary. Jonathon Agnew had obviously just taken huge exception to something that Viv Richards had said. Richards was saying things like 'I know what a dumpling is.....we have them in the West Indies'. (There was lots of raucous laughter fro the other people in the commentary box).

Agnew refused to accept his apology and carried on doing the commentary and summing up completely alone and not giving Sir Viv a chance to get a word in edgeways. After a few minutes JA said Viv Richards is vacating , which is probably just as well. He then carried on with someone else, who seemed a bit awkward before going for his break. Does anyone know what it was all about???

Agnew was trying to avoid another "leg over" moment. Viv was saying he was going to keep a close on on his dinner as the day before Shulpa (the female production assistant) had "cleaned up his dumplins" which caused much amusement.

Thanks very much it was driving me potty.

I can hardly believe it was something so minor. Aggers who is usually very jolly seemed to be livid but perhaps he was just trying to keep himself from laughing. There is often a sort of cabin fever mentality takes over the commentary box so it is probably just as well to keep a lid on it. I don't know if Viv was winding him up but he's a very good actor if he was - he sounded quite bewildered.
