Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Munaf Patel left out of tour party

http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/ci/co...ry/297784.html

I am a bit shocked, but very happy that these three key names have been excluded.

Patel is possibly one of the best seamers I have seen for India in recent years, and caused England loads of problems when they toured 18 months ago.

Habarjan has English experience with Surrey, and is always a threat to English players, while Shewag may have struggled in early season English conditions but would have loved the usually excellent surface at the Oval.

But as I said I am happy as I am an England fan!!

Yes, I agree with you on Patel but unfortunately he is injury prone and thus has lost a lot of pace. He has not played a whole series for quite some time. As for Harbarjan, he has become poorer IMO over the past few years. Kumble will pose a greater threat to England.

Sehwag, is a surprise to me. I still feel that he is better than Jaffer who will get exposed in England.
Overall though, I think that Singh and Patel had injuries and had only been declared fit recently, so it might not be the worst decision. Sehwag, poor decision IMO. He is a class player with valuable experience.

GF,

I must admit I have taken my eye off the ball when it comes to India, they play so many pointless ODI's that I forget to see who is in the team and who isn't..

As it is I was still surprised that none of those three made the Squad. I must admit Habarjan's powers to surprise seem to have waned, but he would still be enough for most English Batsmen, but Kumble will be a test as always. While Patel seemed to have much going for him when England toured, and a big strong fast bowler would do well in England, and they don't have many of those. No sign of Pathan either - which didn't surprise me at all.

To be honest I was never that worried about Harbajhan, I would rather he played! Its the same with Pathan, again India would be much weaker with him in the team.

Apart from one great series against Australia, Harbhajan has hardly done anything to merit selection. Sehwag is not in form for a long time now and the decision to exclude him is justified. A player cannot be selected on reputation and past performances alone.

Patel is abit unlucky but carrying an injured player is a big risk, which the Indian selectors did not want to take.

But in my opinion, repeat of 1974 is on the cards, no matter what team is selected....

Until the Indians stop playing pointless cricket matches, and BCCI manages cricket professionally in the country, Indian team will never be a force to reckon with.

Great work by the Indian selectors! Sehwag has been playing rubbish for the past two years as his technical weaknessess are now so great that even a bowler like Ashley Giles could get him out. With his weakness to late swing and bounce Sehwag would have never survived this England tour with Hoggard, Sidebottom and Harmison bowling at him.

I think its more about his attitude than the technical problems. The technical problems always existed and he still made some huge scores and looked solid. Even now, he playes some breathtaking shots and then gets out to a stupid one. I dont think he is out of form, but I think he needs to change his style. Earlier he was great is shot selection and now he plays really stupid shots.

Don't knock the king of Spain, even the best batsmen in the world have fallen for his leg stump tactics...

As it is you won't have to worry about Ashley, Monty will be the spinner, funnily enough the best batsmen in the world can also get out to him too...
