A lot of people have been getting all het up about this and it's really strange. The Beeb board is full of lunatics going crazy over a few sweets. Zaheer Khan decided to use something he took offence to to his advantage and bowled absolutely brilliantly. Credit to him for that. I don't understand the furore that's followed, far worse things happen!

If only Vaughan had annexed that comment with "...while I was on the field." As he was not on the field himself at the time, it seems a little unfair to blame him / call for his head. Blame Collingwood maybe, seeing as he was temporarily in charge at the time?

The point in this case is not whether the beans were thrown, but whether the captain took the trouble to find out before making his ill-advised and inaccurate statement to the press. He is responsible for what he said in my view, both in this case and the Fredalo debacle. Rule 1 before opening your mouth to a journalist: get your facts right, because every single one you refer to is going to be checked.
