Are you writing a new "carry on" script Seamer? Seriously the fast bowler steaming in, bowling the throat ball and the batsman hooking it over the fence is the most exhilarating but the classic cover drive is probably the easiest on the eye.

I can see why the cover drive is so popular, a beautiful shot. I chose the late cut as it requires the best footwork in my opinion. However, someone berated the square cut? Unquestionably the most important stroke in Test cricket, probably followed by the on drive. When guys like Lara and Dravid build their game entirely around these two strokes it's enough evidence to suggest that these are critical, but particulary the square cut. It has the largest range both off the pitch and through the field, many, many great openers have survived with a wonderful technique and a pure square cut and nothing else.

I like a classical cover drive like Michael Vaughan does when he is in full flow.Beautiful.

Man, Vaughan is one of those players I dismiss in the like, Gibbs or VVS Laxman way, or the way I used to with Jayawardene - empty "all or nothing" strokemakers. But then when you see him get in and bat you're like stunned, you think "*****, this guy can actually bat". He just cannot stay away from full balls early in his innings, he drives compulsively.

Vaughan on the cover drive is magical to watch, the ashes series where he averaged 80 odd, was in superb nick back then.

Love the odd strengths some players have, Ashraful/Vettori/Loye a few off the top of my head with their uncoventional sweeps, slog sweeps and just plain power! Pretty unique id say.

Also enjoy watching a left hander at the top of his game, to me leftys smashing the ball to the ropes just looks better on the eye

My favourite cricket shot (as it's the one I can't play to save my life! ) Is the leg stump half-volley played along the ground just in front of square. Mark Waugh being the best exponent.

Every leg stump half volley I get just hits my pads or is chipped straight into Mid-On's hands.

Absolutely, the square cut, played well, is the most exciting shot in cricket. Aesthetically, I don't think you can go far wrong with a dead straight on drive.

I am sad that no one, including me, has voted for the agricultural hoick through wherever. I am sure it has its place.

Its probably one of the most effective shots anyway.
