Pakistan vs South Africa 1st test @ National Stadium,Karachi

After Graeme Smith won the toss and batted him and Gibbs took the score to 87 before the skipper was given out LBW for 42 of Hafeez.

Next to the wicket was Amla joining Gibbs and they took the score to 109 before Gibbs fell to Umar Gul for a well made 54.

Now @ the crease is Amla and Kallis with the score 2/130 of 40 overs.

What you do notice looking at the South African side is the massive tail they have with Pollock missing.Boucher is at 7 and then there is nothing else which is the first time i can remember a South African side with such a weak lower order.

Yea i did realise that Greg.

With Nel batting at number 8 they do look pretty bad.

Their tail consists of Nel,Ntini,Harris and Steyn.

Well as fragile as South Africa's tail does look it's nothing compared to the Pakistani middle order minus the big guns MoYo and Inzy. Now I'm guessing that however little match practice MoYo has had in the past few weeks most Pakistan supporters would rather see him than the great Faisal Iqbal and for all his 20/20 exploits test failure Misbath batting at 4 and 5.

So Karachi in October are we talking 75 over days with bad light and ealy morning dew effectively killing off any chance of a result or are we likely to get enough play for a positive result? Sorry with 12 month a year cricket you kind of lose track of what season we are currently at in Pakistan .

Kallis has scored yet another century, his 25th for his country....or for himself, as some would claim. Frankly, the way SA seem to follow each other like lemmings into the choking pit, they could do with more examples of Kallis' "selfishness"

I am not going to see much of this series but no surprises Kallis is leading from the front.
Hopefully 400 + tomorrow.

SA 235 ahead with 7 wickets, including Kallis still left. I think Pak are going to have a tough time saving this one.

Pakistan have to bowl well on day 4 and then try and bat out the rest of the game and play for an unlikely draw.

The main man they will look for tobat out the game will be:

Hafeez
Akmal
Khan
Iqbal
M.Ul-haq
Malik
Butt

Correct me if im wrong but doesn't Salman Butt usually open the batting.

Maybe he might of got injured and Akmal replaced him at the top.

South Africa well on top despite not batting very well 2nd time around.158-5 gives a lead of 317 and Kallis is still there so a lead of 400 looks on still which you would presume will be enough to win the game.

Also well done Boucher on the record,Gibbs going past 6000 test runs and Kaneria on passing 200 test wickets.
