Great riposte! I've been to a couple of day nighters in Cape Town and a couple in Australia. If we start off with the position that ODIs are about fun rather than about cricket in its purest form, then I have to say that these are great events. Sitting in the evening with temperatures in the mid-twenties and watching the play under the lights is great fun. Whether I would want to do the same in the balmy evenings of Manchester or Durham in September, I would not like to say without trying. But in the right parts of the world, I'd keep this form for ODIs - and for this at least I propose a vote of thanks to Kerry Packer.
