Interesting Times Ahead

When you look around the sides in world cricket at the moment there are quite a few sides with young fast bowlers who have made a good impression in one day/20Twenty cricket who have yet to play much if any test cricket.

The likes of Mitchell Johnson,Stuart Broad,Morne Morkel and Sohail Tanvir have all shown they have ability and temperament and it is going to be very interesting to see which ones if any can transfer there good form in the shorter game into the test arena.

I think it is fairly obvious that Johnson will get a test match this Australian summer and Morkel would probably have played in Pakistan but for injury but when the other two are blooded is anyones guess as i can't see Broad being in the squad for the Sri Lanka tests and i don't know why Tanvir is being ignored (Maranello may be able to clear that one up).

We have seen some of the old guard go in McGrath and now Pollock has been dropped and it is about time we had some decent young pace bowlers come through, when you consider we already have Steyn,Asif and Sreesanth making a decent impression it gives us hope that there may be more competition between bat and ball like there was in the 80's and early 90's instead of the bat dominating like the last 10 years.

They all have a way to go but there is promise there, certainly more than there was say 5 years ago.

The cricket ratings tend to favour folk with a high strike rate (and individuals with the game to bag 5-fors) much more highly than they value reliable workhorses whose pressure the other end so often goes unrewarded... so any decent "fast" bowler should shoot up them.

In practice... Ntini, Bond and Akhtar are standing out near the top of the pack... but it's the tried and trusted medium paced favourites that dominate: Pollock, Clark, Hoggardm Khan, Asif, Collymore and Vaas are all in to top 10 of seamers.. and the young fast bowling cadre are nowhere.

Not that you should be accusing the likes of Mitchell Johnson and Stuart Broad of being fast bowlers: Ern will be spitting feathers at the very notion

For what it's worth.. I'm backing the generation of Clark, Hoggard, Khan and co... perhaps including Bracken and Sidebottom... to dominate the ratings for a good few years: they are all entering their prime as seamers... and whilst I'm sure 2-3 youngsters (hopefully including guys you mention like Johnson and Broad, but also others like Hilfenhaus) may come through.... the only younger bowler who looks an absolutely certain success is Asif.

I think Mortaza of Bangladesh has promise too, He was excellent in the World Cup in the West Indies.

Never really bothered by ratings or the world rankings, but I will say that they should have officially been chucked away the moment Corey Collymore got so high!!

Please edit your list, Collymore is NOT a tried and trusted medium pace favourite...well at least not to West Indians!

Another young bowler with talent is R P Singh, assuming he maintains his focus and does not get wayward like Sreesanth.
