| CMJ in The Times gives Sidebottom 4. |

| Thats about right DSOTM. You cant give someone who averages 60 with the ball a good score! Its a bit like giving Bopara a 7 and saying he was unlucky because he got a couple of good balls and was unlucky he hit the ball to fielders who could catch. Ultimatley Sidebottom has shown he lacks penetration at test level againt the better teams and in future he will be best used as a back up for Hoggard.

| He wouldn't be my choice as an opening bowler. I do think Harmison should be opening with Hoggard and as for the third bowler I think Tremlett would do for a couple of years until Broad gets a bit more speed and experience. You look at Kirtley and Johnson who did well in English conditions and after going to Sri Lanka were never seen again but I think England will keep Sidebottom as he has shown he can stick around with the bat. For the one day side I would like to see Anderson and Broad opening and Plunkett and Flintoff as first change with Swann following. Anderson and Broad were a good pairing in that they never let India get more than 40 runs in the first 10 overs for the majority of the one day games. |
