South Africa v West Indies at Port Elizabeth, Dec 26-30, 2007

South Africa v West Indies at Port Elizabeth, Dec 26-30, 2007

Match underway: see Cricinfo - 1st Test: South Africa v West Indies at Port Elizabeth, Dec 26-30, 2007

SA have picked Nel ahead of Pollock and have chosen to bowl first despite the pitch being expected to be tailor-made for Pollock's bowling: bizarre. I thought little of Fletcher but Arthurs is in a whole other league: just plain bad for cricket.

Actually, Nel has bowled well thus far. Incidentally, someone forgot to tell Gayle that this was a Test match.

Have not seen any of the days play but looks an interesting match. If SA can keep WI to around 350 we have still got a chance of winning it.

Good to see Windies showing some spirit at last. IMO, the cricketing world needs the West Indies to come back to top level and remain there, complete with the verve and jollity that used to be part of their cricket in the past. The last thing I want to see is them fading to second grade or worse due to administrative, financial or whatever other problems.

I agree. It would be a joy to watch naturally talented cricketers from the West Indies being competitive the way they used to be until 10 years back.

408 WI good score but could of been worse. Now we will have to bat well.

Absolute pearler from Powell to get rid of Gibbs. Both openers are bowling well and with a fair bit of heat - something S.A should have done yesterday, but failed to do

63-4 now. Both Amla and Kallis back in the hutch. Just when South Africa need one of their famous rearguard actions their tail looks a little on the fragile side.
