| Role models for children For people who have kids who in the 'current Australian and Indian' test team would you consider suitable role models and who would be unsuitable. Good role-models: Gilly Hussey Lee Tendulkar Dravid Ganguly Laxman Kumble Dhoni Poor role-models: Harbhajan Ponting Hayden Sreesanth (special mention) Last edited by amitdesilva : 08-01-2008 at 02:03 PM. |

| I think it would not make any sense if we do not discuss the reasons. And why should we try to avoid arguments? Arent we here to discuss and debate? Just taking names will not make any sense if you do not mention why they are the best role models. But before that, its necessary to define a 'role model'.

But if he was looking for a batting or bowling role model then: Dravid for batting (pre-2007 Dravid) and i guess Clark for bowling (he's in the Hoggy mould -only more successful). |

| I think that Michael Clarke and Symonds should be added to the poor role models. I think that Clarke is the most arrogant person in cricket (He already has all the qualities to replace Ponting). Brett Lee and Stuart Clark are superb role models for young bowlers. Any of the Indian top 6 except Ganguly would be a good role model for a young batsman.

| Brett Lee is a good sportsman. I have never seen him sledging anyone and when a batsman hits him for a four or he bowls an unplayable bouncer, all he does is give that semi-apolegetic grin. On top of that, he always gives 110% on the field, no matter what he is doing. He has my vote. Same goes for Gilchrist. Dravid, Laxman, Kumble and Dhoni are fine as role models. I am less sure about Tendulkar; he is fine on the field, but a bit too over-commercialised to be a good role model for kids. Ganguly comes across as rather too aloof to be "Mr common person", but I might be mistaken. |

| When I saw the header of thread I first thought here we again I will hate this But it's a good post. Although I currently put Dhoni and Kumble in neither camp currently. They are a bit like swinging voters. Last edited by acker : 09-01-2008 at 08:39 PM. |
