| [quote=gibbs_fan;149738]Well what a days cricket. India end on 52/1 with a lead of 170. Credit to India and Kumble for putting in an inspired performance after the incidents during the last test. Just a few comments. Quote:
Check out his final over of the day. 10.6 Tait to Pathan, no run, rips it past the outside edge and it's well left, so that's the end of the day This should be the last ball of the day. Tait lost his run-up there, too, so had to pull out of the delivery. Boos ring out 10.6 Tait to Pathan, 1 wide, ...and all for nothing as that was a wide. 10.6 Tait to Pathan, 1 no ball, another no-ball, oh dear, and now he's been told to hurry up so he races back to his mark 10.5 Tait to Pathan, no run, another good bouncer over middle 10.4 Tait to Pathan, no run, banged in a pretty well directed bouncer over leg 10.3 Tait to Pathan, no run, outside off, good length though, that one angling across the left hander as Tait's over the wicket, and the batsman watches it through 10.3 Tait to Pathan, 1 no ball, right up there on off, and defended forward with ease The two batsmen come together, Pathan having a quick chinwag with Sehwag Eek 10.3 Tait to Pathan, 1 wide, very wide down the off-side, bit of a waste of a ball, and it's been called wide, too 10.2 Tait to Pathan, 2 runs, the line's wrong, straightening, and it's easily tucked off the legs in front of square where Jaques does the tidying up Three slips in for Pathan 10.1 Tait to Sehwag, 1 run, on leg, some late movement and Sehwag makes sure to get right over the ball in guiding it to midwicket Quote:
The new ball only lasts so long. Australia already has openers, so his usefulness in that regard was always going to be nil. If the ball does not reverse, he is also of little use with the old ball. And once again, we already have bowlers that can utilise the old reverse-swinging ball, so use use in that regard was always going to be nil. Basically, unless he is to be used as a replacement for Lee, it is pointless selecting him. Quote:

I believe Sreesanth is injured, so that explains his absence. Zaheer, if available, will probably be a good option for Adelaide

| I will finish by saying that you can not totally write off Australia yet. Ponting's captaincy has been marked by a few famous losses (as Gibbs Fan likes to point out That said. I doubt they will chase down more that 350. If the swingers don't get them, Kumble will.

| I've wondered why Pathans career has been so stop start. I first watched him in an ODI in england (3 match) and he moved the ball around a bit, nippy but not quick, and for a left armer a really nice, loose limbed action, plus he can bat a bit too ! Anyone know why he hasnt been a regular in the test side? Congrats to kumble as well for 600 wickets.

| Seamer, I have not pointed out any famous losses of Ponting's. This batting display shows you just how good Hayden is and the massive impact he makes in this Australian team. I am sure that he would have enjoyed this wicket. I will never write off the Aussies. With their strong batting line up, India will need to bat them completely out of the game by scoring 400 or more. Having said that, the Aussies will still try to chase down any total. I feel for Rogers though, making his debut in a rare game when Aus is under pressure. If Hayden is fit for the next game surely Rogers will be axed unless the selectors have the marbles to drop Clark (his bowling may just keep him in the side)

| The Indian bowlers have done a terrific job of restricting the Aussies and gaining first innings lead for India. It was conventional swing/seam bowling from the top drawer, something not often seen in cricket these days. The Indian bowling attack, pretty much written off before the series started, has done a fantastic job so far. Now it is up to the Indian batsmen to continue the good work. Although India are in a box seat right now, there is along way to go in this test match and Australia should not be written off yet. Infact I still believe that unless India set Australia a target in excess of 500, Australia are the favourites to win this test match. |

| It's great to see the Indians doing well in this test. Tait looks underdone, Johnson looks to be the real deal when he makes the batsman play, Clark is always good and so is Lee. I hope that they set Australia around 450 to win and really make them earn the record. As we know about the Aussies is that they will always try to win the match so it will hopefully be a great game.

Rogers only came in as a short term replacement for Hayden via his injury, Rome wasn't built in a day nor will Rogers test career on the basis of his maiden innings. But having made a better fist of it in the first innings on his home ground would have helped, ball's in Rogers court now to make better of his time in the spotlight in his second innings. Same goes for Clarke he wont get dropped on this performance, but their is a guy playing for Victoria starting to get a fair bit of notice from the selectors and public down here with some very solid performances. And his brother Michael already bats number four in the test team. His name is David Hussey. Clarke is safe for now but young Hussey is steadily getting closer to his spot. Pup does not want to many more bad days out to follow this. |
