Brett Lee's fitness

I am impressed with Brett Lee's physical fitness, considering that at 31+ he is not exactly a spring chicken in fast bowling terms. He remained his usual athletic self on the field and still gave 100% with no apparent sign of weariness when asked to bowl at the end on a long hot day. Apparently, some years ago he set himself the target of becoming and remaining the fittest cricketer in the team and he seems to have achieved this task. Yes, I know that he had his back massaged a few times, but that did not slow him down one bit on the field.

In contrast, Mkhaya Ntini, who is 8 months younger, is showing slight but definite signs of time catching up with him. I observed him carefully both on the field and while bowling against the Windies; he seems to be a kilo or two over his fighting weight and there is just a hint of rust in the springs.

I think that Mitchell Johnson is just as fit as Lee, I was impressed by both of them yesterday. The only difference was that Lee and Tait dropped pace towards the end of the day (except for Lee's last spell) where Johnson was consistant the whole day.

Brett Lee is really a sign of whats to come and a signal of just how advanced medicine and fitness science is today.
Most people think that if they are slim and they excercise then they are healthy when the reality is that some of the most un-healthy people I know fit that bill.

What you can do with your body if you seriously eat well and exercise well (which includes not excercising somtimes) is preety amazing and Brett Lee has taken very good care of his body.

The reality is that being an athlete these days means taking serious care of your eating and fitness. Anybody who knows anything about food and excercise will understand that it isn't a simple task (how many of you have uncooked oil in your diets, eat a large amount and variety of fruit and veg ect?) But the rewards are obvious.

Eating, exercising etc is all very well, but there are instances where one's own attitude is as important in sporting fitness and IMO that is certainly true in Lee's case. He gives the impression of a tough character who is determined enough to ignore a certain amount of physical discomfort to do what he has to. Remember that in the 2005 Ashes he came off the hospital bed to play and almost turned the match around?
