I can not recall when I saw the Aussies score so slow. Their run rate right now is 2.88. Even in difficult times, they score above 3.5. And then this is a batting pitch. They are definitely playing for a draw.

Sensible cricket by them, they are playing safely as they know that taking wickets is hard on this pitch if you play within yourself, you can bat as long as you like with no fear of being done by the pitch as it is so good. You can't blame them for protecting their series lead can you?

certainly not. They are doing what they should be doing. I just want to say that Indian have forced the Aussies to play defensively after a long time. They always go for the kill. But this time, they realize that if they play aggressively, they might lose.

At this rate, Australia will play for a long time. By the time they declare or get all out, I dont think we would be left with enough time for twenty more wickets to fall. This is headed for a draw.

Shame he was crap everywhere else in the world then unlike those that you listed.

I totally agree with that the Aussies have realised the potential threat of 03-04 repeat and are not taking any chances. AT the same time the Indian bowling, particularly the pace bowlers have been very good. The spinners were, though, a disappointment. On a turning track Harbhajan did not trouble any one and Kumble is usually a much better bowler than how he bowled today.

I still would not hold my breath for a draw. The Indian batting has been suspect in the second innings (like at the SCG) and Tendulkar has an appalling record in the second innings. Let us see how much the Aussies score in the first innings. At this rate 700+ appears to be on the cards.

Not trying to jinx him but I hope Ponting brings up his tonne tomorrow, hopefully he'll back in form after this innings.

You can't fault the Aussies for not going for the win, A draw in this battle would be a victory in the series overall so I guess they're looking at the bigger picture, it's not like they're going for a consecutive wins record anymore,

I reckon Ponting is going for the win via the back door.

I think Ponting will make a declaration that will give India an outside (but very risky) chance at victory. Then Kumble will have to make a decision.

Give India a chance at squaring the series or protecting his personal win/loss record.

If he takes the first option, no one will blame him if his gamble fails. If he takes the second, he will be heavily criticised.

This is what Australia did to Greame Smith a few years ago, and i came off nicely

3rd Test: Australia v South Africa at Sydney, 2-6 Jan 2006

I will be really glad if Ponting keeps the possibilities of a result open.

Australia 3-425 at lunch day 4

It is starting to look as though India will be batting last on this placid track.

And this will probably be Adam Gilchrist's final test innings.
