Tendulkar's second wind

After going through a couple of relatively dodgy years partly caused by enforced absence due to injury, Sachin Tendulkar seems to have found batting form again. 2 centuries already in 2008 and he looks good to become the first man to reach 40 tons at Test level, to match this achievement in ODIs. Obviously, there is still life in the old dog!

I don't know about the "long" bit, but I think Tendulkar has decided that he wants to go out in style and seems more focused than he was a few years ago. He must have realised that depending on his reputation and past performances will not be sufficient and so he has decided quite delibrately to leave his parting mark. I hope that his plan works.

He's only a couple of hundred runs away from Lara's all time scoring record too I believe.

Which makes it all laughable how, when we were discussing the Greatest XI, Tendulkar was so quickly dismissed.

True, but where will we fit him? Personally, I don't want to budge from Headley, Bradman and Sobers for Nos 3,4 and 5; I had Dravid or Barrington or Walcott down at No:6, but if Tendulkar does not mind coming in at 6, I would gladly put him there.

Whether he makes your or anyone else's XI is not the point I was making.

The point I was making is this man's career is a 2 decade long manifestation of greatness yet was dropped for consideration of a revised shortlist for players such as Headley/Pollock whose Test careers don't match up. There's no need to go over that whole issue. Just making an observation.

Well said. And all these years he had to bat under the "burden" of expectations of a billion people.

Sachin Tendulkar can easily walk in any world 11 anytime!
