Gilchrist's Record

Congratulations to Adam Gilchrist for passing Mark Boucher's wicketkeeping record in Adelaide today. But realistically, the record is not going to stand for very long. The South African has the advantage of being 5 years younger.

Many people think the keeper that takes the least no of matches to take a certain no of catches is the best. This is not always so, for example if you play for a team like bangaladesh catching oppurtunities are going to be scarce.
However if you play for a team whose swing bowlers are well known, you are bound to get a no of oppurtunities. And if you play for a team that solely depends on its spin bowlers, you would get very less oppurtunities.

Boucher is not playing for a team over laden with spin bowlers though.

For me, while Gilly's record is admirable, he will always be remembered as a gentleman of the game, one of the very few to come from Australia in the past 20 odd years or so.
