| If Gilchrist has been the most unselfish batsman that I have seen, willing to throw away his wicket trying to get Australia into a better position. I would love to see a statistic of how many time is test cricket Gilchrist had gone out to bat with Australia over 500 and Gilchirst throwing away his wicket trying to get them to 600 with in 15 overs. If he had have been a more selfish batsman like Vaughan, Bell, Kallis or Dravid he would have averaged a lot more in test cricket because he would have gotten more not outs whilst batting with the tail.
I see you say that you would have taken Vaughan or Bell ahead of Gilchrist, I have one question for you. How many games of cricket has Adam Gilchrist won for Australia off his own bat in both forms of the game compared to Vaughan and Bell.
Just one more question, could anyone else except Gilchrist in the world have the ability to play the innings he played in Perth last time England were out? 57 ball hundred and he utterly destroyed England within an hour. If Hoggard hadnt bowled that wide there is no doubt in my mind that he would have beaten Viv's record or at the very least equalled it. He has been the only cricketer that I have seen that has been able to pull a ball off a good length outside off stump over mid wicket and out of the stadium.
