Would Gilly had retired if there were no IPL ?

Considering the millions he will earn for far less cricket not to mention loads of ad revenue for having a good image can the IPL be seen as having any influence in Gillchrist retiring when he did?
I believe it did. If he did not have the IPL as a backup he would still have the desperation to fight and regain his form. He is still the best test and Odi keeper in Australia by a distance.

What next Flintoff retiring citing regular injury ? The country v/s club conflict we see so regularly in Premiership football has made it's entry in cricket and is only going to make things more controversial.

But it will sure make the game more richer and world wide.

Adam Gilchrist would be a top recruit for an Australian political party.

I bet they both scout him.

Well you can't blame him if he does go and make an easy buck in the IPL.

Who wouldn't in the same position?

For me the IPL stinks and i won't take any interest in it whatsoever.

With all due respect Greg, can you please tell me why the IPL sucks. I can understand if you hold dislike the ICL but the IPL is a legitimate league.

IMO its no different to County cricket. Players from SA, WI quit international cricket to earn big bucks in county cricket. Maybe county cricket stinks too

I have no problems with the IPL as it does not stop any of the players from representing their country. Also, remember in India, the shorter forms of the game are more popular than test cricket so another short-format tournament wont hurt anybody. With a list of current internationals playing in the tournament, it also makes for exciting viewing (imagine watching Tendulkar and Ponting batting together) unlike the ICL which has a bunch of pensioners.

Whether people like it or not, there is no money in test cricket outside England, so 20-20 is here to stay. Get used to it. Well done to BCCI for arranging an "international" 20-20 league. We have also seen Stanford invest millions in organising 20-20 matches.

I think that the Kolpak ruling sucks that is ruining South African cricket,at the moment i am not liking domestic cricket worldwide as we seem to be losing too many players from the international game and yes that includes in my own country.
