That makes me feel quite encouraged about next year, I've never really thought we might win before, as I can't actually remember us winning the Ashes!

It does not happen that often, Bothams Ashes where special, maybe, just maybe, Flintoffs ashes.

It's 1981. One of the Tests (at Headingley) was only the second time in history a side has won after following on. There's been one time since, in 2001, when India won against Australia at Kolkata. You can see the Headingley scorecard here : http://www.cricinfo.com/link_to_data...21JUL1981.html

The last time we won the Ashes was actually in Australia, in 1986/7. Since then, the Australians have won the lot, 8 consecutive series.

No wonder I can't remember us winning them, I'd only have been 6 then!

A long long time ago

I was a little older than six but it does seem that the Baggie Greens have had the ashes like 4ever! Still things are looking up and further progress can be expected against the Proteas over Xmas & the new year. I think the squad for the Saffers tour will be announced at 09:30 tomorrow on radio 5 live.

Some here will have you believe we could beat the Aussies tomorrow!

Alison - what's that avatar?
