This match is largely ignored with the Ind-Pak clash on right now, but once again we see Australia wrestle back the match with Damien Martyn going along superbly in the 140's and Gilchrist into the 90's at lunch.

Australia are 6-538 after lunch, Gilchrist on 159 at better than a run a ball. NZ should just draw the test, it is now day 3, bat through day 4, even a bit of day 5 just to avoid the follow on...You never know, maybe something like Brisbane 01-02 could eventuate

Drawing a test isn't easy; just ask the out of sorts Steve Fleming and Nathan Astle...NZ are 4-128, , and require another 245 to make Australia bat again, with Vincent, McMillan, McCullum, Vettori and Franklin...Hard ask..

Aus firm favorites to win still, even with one day lost to rain. I can't see NZ pulling this off, I'm struggling to remember the last time any team managed to save a test against the Aussies, I guess it was Sri Lanka last winter (Aussie winter i.e, from one of those games played in Darwin and Cairns)..however point is that NZ batting just crumbles under pressue, they might recover in their first innings and be just able to avoid the follow on But I would suspect that even in that case they'd end up losing the match, some of their recent second innings score against Aus, England and Pakistan even have been quite below parr - NZ just struggle when they're put under that sort of pressure. I hope they can do better, but it looks an up hill task. Good luck to them.

I would just like to see Flem make some runs!

He should start using his bat instead of his pads. Can't score runs if you don't use your bat. His theory of not playing McGrath and letting it go through to the keeper is now defunct.

No argument there. I'm wondering if he's forgotten what the bat is for! :-P

Rain Ends Australias Hopes..>

Well rain has come to the aid of New Zealand, and to be fair, I think they needed some luck.

Indeed, rain saved the day, but not before McGrath nailed Fleming on the pads again....

This is a severe weakness he must address.
