| Might it have something to do with the fact that most players reach their peak rather later in their careers and aren't really ready before that? You get exceptions like Tendulkar... but the normal result of sending someone in young is what we got with Ed Smith (dropped), Rob Key (dropped) and (worst of all) Flintoff (carried around as a passenger for 5 years whilst he learns what batting and bowling are all about). |
