The Ashes Build Up Thread

Enough of those silly threads. THIS is the thread to discuss the oldest and most traditional cricket series in the world. Many regard it as a traditionalists dream; the two old foe going at each other.

Who will be taking the urn home? Australia or England?

Sorry to get this thread off to a wayward start, but that bit where you say the Ashes is the biggest series in international cricket, I would say that's arguable. Not everyone would agree.

As usual, mate, the MCC will let everyone have a look at it and then put it back in the box for another four years.

As to who will win, well, painful though it is for me to say it, the Australians will, but with the difference as against the last couple of outings being that they'll have to play for it this time. (Bear in mind that a draw is good enough for the Aussies to retain the Ashes, but only a win will give them back to England.)

I vote England, even though I except that Australia will rightly be the favorites to win. However, I also feel this is the first Ashes in many years we can expect to be competative and that England have a chance to win, even if it would require things to go England's way on many fronts. I am, at heart, an optimistic person, so I will hope for the best!! 2 - 1 to England, I say!

Briiliant post Kirsty. It has sort of persuaded me to vote England as well!

I think the Aussies will sneak it. I mean really just sneak it. I think they will be pushed all the way, and will be shocked at how England have improved and can take sessions from them, but ultimately their superior strength in all departments will just pay off.

However, I think we will show something to the ragged-arsed Aussie ex-players, commentators and fans who (as usual) arrogantly assume that this will be a one-sided 5-0 whitewash. A load of cobblers say I, I'll bet you my last custard-creams to your ropey old Tim-Tams that you are all going to unpleasantly surprised down there in Upsidedownland!

(Rant over, you'll still win!)

No disrespect to Kirsty, or Zainub for that matter, but what was so persuasive about that post that hasn't already been brought up!!!

I love simplicity of thought, and I fall for optimism like nine pins.
