Come on Zubby - check out the wording of the question. I think Lemming was being mischevious!

Sorry, it was a little tricky! But the question was posed well enough. I think it was a good question and not impossible as Teatime FatCat showed.

The game was devised in 1786 by Jake "the Peg" Stumpson to celebrate his additional appendage. He was of course immortalised by Rolf Harris in the song Jake the Peg (with his extra leg)

Or so I was told

Well, F=G, I know there are several forms of entertainment in that part of Southampton, but he assures me that he only goes for the football! His wife believes it too. (Maybe you don't know, F=G, that despite my present residence, I am Southampton born, and my brother too. He still lives in Hampshire, just along the road at Fareham. PO16 postcode but can't bring himself to set foot in Fratton Park!)

Why do we have 3 stumps...well...from the top of my mind...Because the guy who invented cricket was really very superstitious and he believed in the theory "even numbers are unlucky and odd numbers are lucky"...and since he thought that one stump would have made the game too unfair for bowlers he went in with the next odd number which was 3
