Is Clarke that good? I would take Kaif and Collingwood over him any day.

I think the best three are: Kaif, Symonds and Collingwood.

Below that, there are many very good fielders, Yuvraj, Clarke, Afridi, though none in the Rhodes class as yet.

Ricky Ponting is as good as anyone out there even at 30 something (though he's on the right side of the 30 I believe), he along with Collingwood, Gibbs and Kaif are some of the best going around - that guy Dwayne Bravo has also pulled off some stunners recently...Michael Clarke, Andrew Symonds, Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Yuvraj Singh and Freddie are all also world class.

I think Herschelle Gibbs is probably the best fielder around at the moment, that guy takes some stunning catches.

I don't think that just taking catches qualifies anyone to be classed as the best fielder in the game,I don't have any facts or figures but I would be surprised if anyone has had more run-outs than Clarke of Australia in international matches this last 12 months. Darren Lehmann was a brilliant catcher, but because of his snail pace,he was one of the worst fielders in international(or any other) cricket.

Absolutely: Johnty Rhodes did take extra-ordinary catches but he was sensational from the moment the bowler turned to start running in until the ball went dead. His quiet advance was menacing, his anticipation and movement seemed to almost precede the ball hitting the bat, his stops were great, his throws were awesome and his backing up and giving chase were exemplary.

Priorities clearly change depending on where you field (makes a big difference if you're filling Ian Botham's shoes in the slips or Chris Lewis' at midwicket)... but to be honest a safe pair of hands is just a minimum pre-requisite that stacks of fielders can offer: movement, anticipation, pace across the turf, judgement, agility, strength of throwing arm, speed of ball release and accuracy when aiming at a single stump are all important!

Mark Taylor was always a good slips fielder. mark waugh is also up there.

But Roy and Gibbs are far and away the best. Also, Maranello, Clarke takes brilliantly judged catches and run outs. Did you see when he caught Sami running into the sun in Perth late last year?
