Might've made more impact if he'd started his international career earlier for his native country - for instance 1986 (aged 20) when he scored 2000 first class runs or 1988 when he smashed 405 not out v. SRI: Arjuna Ranatunga (I never saw him play when he was thin!)

Everyone said the usual names for Pakistan ...Imran, Wasim , Waqar, and here, here I see someone mentioning Sailm Malik and Hanif Mohammad too. That's all nice. But I'd get a tad selfish I admit.

I'd bring back Fazal Mahmood - just for his eyes. I could stare at them forever and forever.

Come on Greg, surely I've crept ahead of that one with my Ranatunga reason...

Why I have missed the Ranatunga reason?

For the record I will bring back the following for the rest of the test playing nations

Aus: David Boon, that game needs it characters back
England: Boycott - brilliant - it will take him out of that commentary box - what more can anyone ever ask for?
New Zealand: Dion Nash, I just liked this person
South Africa: Pat Symcox - they haven't got any good spinners now, he wasn't that good either, again, he's a pathetic commentator, if he's playing, I wouldn't have to bare the commentary
Zimbabwe: Andy Flower - I just loved the headlines you could make when he was playing - Flower Blooms or Flower Blossoms - It was like your were abou to read a gardening do it your self article - very inviting - cricket reports about Zimbabwe have never been the same without him
West Indies - Clive Llyod - to see how he would resond to being referred by someone else for a change
India - Mohammad Azharuddin - I just loved the way he batted - had something about him
Sri Lanka - Ranatunga - what a funny name! Reminds me of another thing called a Tonga - a horse carrige in another words - plus, this man was healthy - I like healthy cricketers

We'll bend the rules a bit. England can have back Hussain, Botham and Boycott...

We don't need Hussain back. He served a great purpose for English cricket, getting the team off its knees. But that time has gone. For England, I'd like to see Compton. I've heard he was superb to watch. My Mum always wanted to go to watch him play. She misheard his name on the radio, so she was always begging her Dad to take them to see 'Daddy Compton' play. They never did get to see him, and I think she regrets it to this day. So if he came back, my Mum could go to watch him.

I'd also like to see Sobers playing. A quality all-rounder, possibly better than anyone lese since. He came to our school to give a talk. He just had that special presence, where you know someone has a certain 'greatness' before they've even begun to talk. The whole room was in awe of the man.

And wouldn't it be nice to see how WG Grace would get on in the modern world of cricket. I'd anticipate a few run ins with the ICC, or the WGGCC as he would probably have it.

Interesting thought:

1. Boycott
2. Tresco / Strauss
3. Hussain
4. Vaughan
5. Thorpe / Bell / Pietersen
6. Flintoff
7. Botham
8. GO Jones
9. Giles
10. S Jones / Hoggard
11. Harmison (or take S Jones AND Hoggard)

Now THAT would be a tough prospect... especially over a grueling 5 Test series where injuries are always likely!

I was more concerned with the fact that it would get them out of the commentry box.

I never rated Hussain.
