Personally I take everything Boycott says with a pinch of salt. He's entertaining (up to a point) and has some interesting insights, but (like Trueman) every word that comes out of his mouth is a heavy-handed attempt at self-aggrandisement. I also think his opinions are often quite arbitrary - he's inclined to make an immediate judgement about a player and then stick to it regardless of what actually happens on the pitch.

Ah, just enjoying Pietersen and then Martyn comes up with a cracking catch, why couldn't they just have dropped that, thats our chances of getting near the Aussie total gone then

Hands up all those who thought Thorpe should be playing instead of Pietersen.
How anyone could ignore his one day form was a bit beyond me ? It was done with such authority he had to be in unless of course he was competing with Tendulkar or Lara and Thorpe doesn't fit that bill.
Pietersen out 57 good catch.

aww bollocks, i know it's a case of live by the sword die by the sword but pieterson was doing well, he didn't really need to go for another 6 in the over, harmison was holding up ok at the other end, fair enough if we were down to just jones the ball left, swing for all of them.

i'm always critical of our players because i think they could be number 1 but need to stop getting carried away when something goes right.

I felt the same with jones the glove, he didn't need to go for the hook, it just wasn't the right time, but you feel you can't be too critical when at least he's scored something, but he was looking very good and should have got a hundred, same with pieterson, if both of them got hundreds, or even into the 70's each then we'd be back into the match whereas now we're still out of it.

On the plus side, we've gone past the 102 all out i predicted, if jones and harmison can just get another 10 runs each that takes us to 145 so only one batsman behind which isn't completely out of the game.

How did Bell do coming in at 12-2??? There is no doubt in my mind that Thorpe should have played in this test. All I have seen convinces me that the selectors were wrong.

I know it sounds stupid at 128-9, but i think australia have missed a trick here, Lee should have been on roughing our tail up.

simon jones is another frustrating one, he can actually bat quite well, i remember his debut with 40 odd, he does have a number of shots but it's his fiery celtic temperament that lets him down, he gets one good shot then thinks he's gilchrist and starts swiping at everything.
