The Ashes First Test Lords Sunday 24th July..Day 4.

Rain is forecast today so it could be a stop-start affair.

Our fellow member, John, who is close to Lord's, tells us elsewhere that there will be no cricket before lunch time today due to heavy rain. If anything, Jonathan Agnew is even more pessimistic, suggesting that there is a possibility of today being completely washed out. Forecast is for the weather to ease around 1500 or 1600 BST, and Aggers suggests that the clean up at Lord's can usually be completed within an hour or two. If today is washed out, then sadly the forecast for tomorrow morning is not much different.

Simon Hill, Dean Jones and "Yeah Yeah" Greg Matthews on SBS predict that it'll be on in forty minutes. Extremley confused.

Light rain at this point. Low clouds. Earliest play must now be 3:30. Touch and go if we see a ball bowled. If it keeps raining anoher 2 hours you can either be depressed ( down under) or hoping for the same tomorrow ( England dressing room).

One beautiful thing about today: David Graveny being interviewed by Mark Nicholas was busy preparing the groundwork to get down on his kneees to kiss Graham Thorpes feet and beg him to come back into the test side.

'His been a wonderful player.....has done so much for England.....perhaps he misunderstood what I was saying.....I've called him on his mobile and asked him to meet me here'.

Nothing may come of it, and probably won't, but it seems to me some work is going on behind the scenes....

Not much chance of play until at least after tea, I think. Rain is pretty much set to remain in the London area; rain is also forecast for much of tomorrow. The great escape is looking a distinct possability!!!

Memo to Channel 4: can you at least not show some highlights of a cricket match rather than some rubbish american show called 'Rich Girls'?

Paoli - I'd like to see some play, but the BBC has just gone off the air with the parting comment that they will come back as soon as there is something to report. Henry Blofeld didn't think that would be before about 1500 BST. I'll post something here as soon as I know anything.

Update at 1200 BST

No change, still raining, still expected to continue for a while. Jonathan Agnew reports a small possibility of the rain easing off around 1500 or 1600 BST.

Graveney also spoke down of Bell... So he may be thinking of calling him in for Bell.

Yeah, who cares about the most overrated comedy ever: Friends?

There have been plenty of great moments captured by the channel 4 cricket team over the past few years. Why can't we see a bit of Butcher's 173*, Hussain century last year, or when we scithed through the WIndies?
