And to be honest The Aussie batsmen looked as uncomfortable facing our bowlers as we do facing theirs. The major difference last test was our catching. We shall see what this game brings forth.

OK: a couple of points from the BBC at this stage.

1. England have already made the highest ever first day score by a team sent in after losing the toss.
2. England have never before made 400 on the first day against Australia.

There's a distance still to go, and maybe it could have been better, but if anyone was looking for a statement of intent, surely it has been made.

England all out for 407.

Can we take a wicket before stumps?

Nice to see the last two wickets put up abit of fight. I thought after KP went we might be bundled out for 360 or something.

Hmm, statistics are all very well but I'm looking at the current situation. A brilliant batting wicket against a great Australian side with many of their batsmen in nick. There is no bounce for Harmison or Flintoff and we dont have a class spinner like Warne.

I reckon the Aussie's should get 500+.

Would be very happy to be wrong though

That is a very very good score. I dont think that pitch is great - why would Ponting straight away offer to bowl ? His first change (kaspa) wasnt even ready !

Well we will see how good the pitch is when the Aussies bat. They say it is good.
I thought England's batting was poor. They were one wicket down at lunch. Now what would you really want. Firstly to be batting Lunch time tomorrow. Why because the Australian attack is ageing you want Warne and company toil. They haven't even had a full day in the field.
I think this smash and grab approach will fail more often than not.
