Agreed. Presumably first name on the teamsheet in a combined XI right now... and playing old fashioned cricket as well. Combined XI (on first TWO Tests) would presumably read like this:

1. Langer
2. Tresco
3. Ponting / Martyn
4. Pietersen
5. Katich
6. Clarke
7. Gilchrist
8. Flintoff
9. Warne
10. McGrath
11. Harmsion

IN his better over I'd say Jones has looked good for that final spot.. but then there's those other overs... which is pretty much what you'd have to say of Lee. ... but you can't seriously propose Strauss or Vaughan ahead of him, nor Hayden or Martyn...

The team is fine, although Flintoff at 8, with Clark in front of him.

On todays showing alone, would you put Flintoff at 6?, played a better innings than either Clarke or Gillchrist, and Gillchrist is supposed to be a specialist no 7.

Flitnoff can't really be said to have played a better innings than Clarke: he slogged and rode his luck to have aq greater impact ont he game.. but at 4th wicket down... Clarke would make a more reassuring sight as he marched to the crease.

You can't really judge Gilchrist on a 4 ball innings... and in the first innings of the match Gilchrist hit a passable unbeaten 49. The Aussie slogger has slogged just as effectively as his Lancastrian rival in his time... and has perhaps done more with his bat... but I can see that being a toss-up - they can't both bat at 7 :-)

Odd comments again Rachael.

Flintoff didn't have the strength to slog on that third day.

With his top hand effectively gone (until the painkillers - or treatment kicked in after lunch) he had to turn down the power as he would constantly have been playing through midwicket in the air.

You are wrong... he played sensibly and well.

It wasn't Goweresque or Martynesque, but I doubt those two would've contributed much at all after pulling (or straining) whichever muscle that threatened to curtail Flintoff's match.
