Andrew Miller actually put it quite brilliant in his column today for cric info.

Australia have been doing well all series when asked to come from behind - and that's exactly what they've got to do at the Oval.

The thread itself is actually factually correct.
(1) Look at the world rankings. (2) Name the only team in world cricket that is currently undefeated both home and away against ALL test nations. (3) Who is playing the rest of the world next month as world champions. Australia is by far the best cricket team.
So England are up 2-1 on the back of some poor umpiring decisions which won them the game. Certainly does'nt mean a thing when deciding the best team. The only nation that thinks England is the best team is England If they can achieve what the Australian have achieved - ie - undefeated home and away against all nations, then we can start to consider them as world champs. But that is a long way away. Last year, Australia won 3-0 in Sri Lanka, England lost 1-0. Australia won 2-1 in India, England have to win there yet. And in Pakistan as well. Those three nations certainly rate Australia ahead of England, that is for sure.
To win a couple tests at home by the narrowest of margins at home and declare yourself world champions without finding out the opinions of the rest of the cricketing world is a little rich to say the least.
Enjoy it while you can i suppose.

Seamer if you check the facts we actually won in Pakistan last time around and yes we have to win in Sri Lanka and India but we have'nt played any of them with this team.Time will tell how good we are but in this series this summer England have been the superior team for long periods of the series.

Only because the Aussies have had a bunch of players for years.England have only just made this team.Strauss,Bell,Pietersen, both of the Jones have not played these Asia teams. In reply to what countries think the Aussies are better than England.I reckon the West Indies,South Africa,New Zealand and Bangladesh would say this England team is better than the Aussies.

Once England have come close to achieving what Australia has, or at the minimum, achieve the number one test ranking, you can not lift your own arm and declare yourselves world champions. Time will tell, but good luck in the subcontinent with giles as the main spinner. And the return rubber in Aus in 18 months time. The fate of this series is not decided yet by the way.............

.
Seamer there is no doubting a few things

1. The recent Australian Test Team has been possibly one of the world's greatest eevr teams. Up there with the invincibles and the West Indies of the last 70's and 80's. The will still be no 1 at the end of this series and deserev tto be playing the World Team.

2. There were some descions which we got which were unlucky.

But every era coomes to an end. Now I am not saying this is the end. But I read a great article by Greg Chappel in the Telegraph yesterday where he talked of ponting recieving the poisoned chalice from Steve Waugh. In his he said that it was only a matter of time before certain players retired leaving Ricky with a team that would no longer win so easily.

In tertms of luck - let's go through it - every team has luck, good and bad during a test. Generally it even's itself out. On this occasion it didn't, however, for me when the luck is going against you it is how you respond to it.

Let's be honest here you have won games in the past where you have had the rub of thee green. It happens it is all part of the game.

Greg, England won in 2001 against Sri Lanka away. I know they subsequently lost another series but a number of these England players have proved themselves over there. Winning in Pak and Sri Lanka in 5 straight series wins etc.
Writing this it occured to me, how many non Ashes series have England lost this millenium out of interest I honestly don't know it can't be very many? 2/3?

England can't even seem to win a game when they are in an un-loseable postion. All of the teams you mention above have been anhialted by the Aussies, far more than they were by the English. Against NZ and Bangladesh we could'nt even get a test to go to the 4th day. England beat NZ... Aus turned them into jelly.

Thanks for that, wow impressive stuff off the top of your head. I was thinking 2 but was not confident enough to commit it to print. I forgot about the SA(a) one, but that has, as you wrote, now been avenged. 2's not bad, hopefully this side will avenge the others but I doubt any side will be as dominate as the Aussie side has over the last decade.
