3rd Ashes Test: Old Trafford, 11-15 August: Day One

Well, we're almost there. Play commences tomorrow at 1030BST. With England having announced an unchanged XII but delaying the final team selection until tomorrow morning and Australia's Brett Lee being declared fit and Glenn McGrath due for a late fitness test also in the morning, we should be in for another great match.

Please post your first day comments here.

England (from): Vaughan (capt), Trescothick, Strauss, Bell, Pietersen, Flintoff, G Jones, Giles, Hoggard, Harmison, S Jones, Tremlett.

Australia (from): Ponting (capt), Hayden, Langer, Martyn, Clarke, Katich, Gilchrist, Warne, Lee, Gillespie, McGrath, Kasprowicz, MacGill.

Weather forecast from the BBC

Light showers today and Saturday; cloudy with sunny intervals on the other three days; temperatures topping out at 20-21C.

How reliable is this? Well, Manchester is on the west side of a small island off NW Europe. The island has a pretty unpredictable maritime climate, and Manchester's weather is probably the least predictable of the lot. Our man (almost) on the spot is Ernest, and perhaps he'll tell us what he can see as the start gets closer.

BBC Weather Centre for Manchester is http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2613

I'm not sure how reliable the BBC weather is at the moment, the Met Office have got this forecast for the region today:

Quote:
Today
It will be cloudy with heavy showers developing from late morning onwards, with a risk of accompanying thunderstorms. Maximum temperature 20 deg C (68 deg F).

You've lost me there, Beny - both Gillespie and McGrath are named in the XIII, but the team won't be announced until just before the toss at 1000BST.

I too have found BBC to be somewhat unreliable for weather forecasts in the past. But according to this site, there will be showers in the morning but things should be okay from 11 am onwards.

I think he looks cool!

I hope we get to bat first even with the magical Mcgrath apparently back!! Although I believe he is the difference between England and the Aussies I think we can battle him and get a victory!
