My point is that I don't agree with the system and would much prefer the Queen to award British knighthoods only to British people. The British Queen - I personally feel - should only recognise British achievement via a knighthood.
But the British Queen is also the Barbadian Queen

Ah, yes, but she is also Queen of Canada, Australia, several countries in the Caribbean and elsewhere. The only way in which the Brits have exclusivity is that we pay for her. Well, you do. I, as a non-resident, dropped out of the Inland Revenue's membership lists a few years ago.

Yes, I see your point, which is very valid. I just personally would like to see a system as I described.

Sadly, the chance of that happening ended a few centuries ago.

Yeah, and that's the way it is. I can accept that. It's only my view I'm expressing, I mean no offence to anybody.

I responded to this on 12 August with a brief "No, he's not". I was correct then, but he has taken British citizenship since then and, having today been knighted, is now Sir Terry Wogan. And good on the old fellah: I still listen to his morning radio programme sometimes, even having not been in the country for fifteen years.

Warne and McGrath should both get a knighthood at some stage of their life, as should Richie Benaud as some people have already mentioned, I think Dennis Lillee also.

I heard a story, that, in Australia people can no longer be knighted. Can anyone confirm this?

No. We've had that question raised several times already, smickel, but it's not true as far as we are told. The Canadians don't accept British honours - they outlawed it years ago - but not the Aussies.

Thanks occasional fan, so Sir Shane Warne really is a possibility, that has a nice ring to it.

Mate - I'm sorry: I only just noticed that you are in Australia right now. As a Pom, I shouldn't be telling you what we think we have concluded about your own country! Hopefully some of the other Aussies will confirm what I said, though!

Now, as to Sir Shane: I guess he could get it, but usually the knighthoods come fairly late in life. Sir Donald Bradman was pretty advanced in years when his came through, wasn't he? By the time Shane is old enough, the UK might be a republic even if Queensland has ensured that Australia isn't!
