| Gilchrist had the worst game I've ever seen him have for Australia - he dropped nearly everything and failed with the bat. |

| Are you saying that Gilchrist dropping two catches and making no runs is worse than Jones dropping more catches than I can count and making no runs... How about that missed stumping off Warne, or the dropped catch... I still dont know how he dropped it. Gilly didd'nt have a good game but he only really made two mistakes with the gloves... Jones made heaps of mistakes. In short... Gilly was poor. Jones was horrible.

Clarke 3? He made a 40 in the second innings and could hardly move in the first. Jones did better than Gilly?

| Based only on what the players did in the context of the match, rather than their capability (otherwise Gilchrist would have been a negative score). I would suggest that five is a pass mark (sorry you don't get three just for being there), 7 a very good performance and 9 outstanding. A pass equates to 90+ runs or five wickets (with a degree of flexibility for how well a player played in the context of the match - ie. bowled very well but didn't get the wickets or bowled like Gillespie but snagged say four) Trescothick 6 - Hayden 4 Strauss 6 - Langer 3 Vaughan 8 - Ponting 9 (Generous perhaps, but overlooking severe captaincy issues in both cases) Bell 6 - Martyn 2 Pieterson 1 - Clarke 4 Flintoff 8 - Katich 1 G. Jones 3 - Gilchrist 2 Giles 2 - Warne 9 Hoggard 1 - Gillespie 1 (solely for batting through 111 balls in the 1st) Harmison 2 - Lee 5 S. Jones 7 - McGrath 6 (bonus 1 for the last overs) Eng 50 - Aus 45 Flintoff and Jones the pick of the bowlers. Warne the best allrounder, despite Flintoff playing well. Ponting over Vaughan purely in context of most of the innings - get out and the side loses. |
