To add to Zainub's list of young (23 and under) bowlers, she also might want to include Jermaine Lawson who is not 24 yet. Investigated action notwithstanding it has been shown to be legal and he has 50 wickets in 12 games |

| As an England selector I would take Pathan over Hoggard at the moment. I think he's a real rising talent and would put him on a par with S Jones, D Bravo and possibly Ian Butler. My main point is that I think that Pathan, Jones and Bravo are probably out there ahead of the others. I'm afraid I don't rate Nel that highly, I think he's all bluster and no guile, Steyn, Edwards and Tait can bowl a a cracking ball, but bowl 4 average ones an over. Gul is a complete unknown to me, so I cannot comment on him. I think I probably warm to Pathan because he is a useful bat, and left armers always add a bit of variety to your attack - accept of course if you are India!

| Just to continue with my list 9)Jermain Lawson, West Indies, 23 years 258 days (http://content-pak.cricinfo.com/westindies/content/player/52413.html) 10)Monde Zondeki, South Africa, 23 years 65 days (http://content-pak.cricinfo.com/ci/content/player/48112.html) Quote:
We really shouldn’t be discussing anything but their bowling skills ATM but since you’ve mentioned it Bravo is also a useful bat, in fact he’s more then a useful bat. With a test 100 to his name, he is easily the best batting option out of the ten bowlers I have listed so far, and is also very good fielder as well. Ian Butler has a first class fifty too and Monde Zondeki has a test fifty (on debut!) against England. Last edited by Zainub : 28-09-2005 at 08:51 AM. |

| Irfan Pathan has scored a 50 against a strong Australian attack when the rest of the Indian top order failed, the batting line contained Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. He also scored a ODI 50 against Shane Bond and co. again when the top order failed. Last edited by Ernest : 28-09-2005 at 10:01 PM. |

| I hope James Anderson ends up better than Pathan but at the moment you would be crazy to say that Anderson was better. As for Zainub's list the only ones who could be rated with Pathan are Malinga and Lawson as the rest have either only played a couple of games or have a bowling average over 30. As i said earlier, lets wait till after the winter matches and we will have a far clearer picture. |

| Zaniub, Those stats are telling - no 5fers against anyone but Bangla and Zim...against those teams his bolwing average is 11.. 59% of his test wickets have come in 4 games against those two teams. Take out those 4 tests and a good average of 26 climbs to 47.92. The big test for him will be Sri Lanka and England, if he can do something against those teams, then he should be considered "most promising" |
