Latest Test rankings

1.Ponting is not surprisingly the worlds number 1. Surely Australia's success over the next year depend heavily on this batting genius.

2.Again not surprisingly Kallis is the only South African batsmen in the top twenty.

3.What is surprising is Ntini is number 2. I don't expect him to be there for long. But I for one am pleased at a player who looked limited has done very well for SA.

4.Pollock has dropped out of the top ten he will soon be out of the top twenty if his present form continues.

5.England have Hoggard and Flintoff in the top ten. If they get everyone fit again whatch out Hayden and company.

I'd back De Villiers to get into the top 20, if not the top 10, in a year or two. He is quality.

John, is this a dip in form for Pollock, or do you think he is getting older and has permanently lost it?

I think polly has played to much cricket in the past few months , not having the new ball will drop any fast bolwer down the rankings ! I think a good 2 months off should be good for him.

I was amazed, on a helpful wicket, that the new ball against NZ went to Steyn and not Pollock. It was the kind of pitch where Pollock can cause havoc by getting it in the channel and moving it around off the seam. Steyn was wayward and got smacked in the first innings.

Pollock was also carrying an injury for a bit wasn't he?

I think he is pretty fatigued and does need a rest, but I reckon that his pace is dwindling and it will only get slower. However his line and length makes him the perfect bowler to tighten up an end, especially when South Africa's spinner, Nicky Boje, isn't always right on the money.

if you want to drop a bowler drop Boje ( his done nothing in the last 2 years ) or you could go into the batting and drop Prince, Gibbs ( just been droped ) or Smith for that matter. !!!!

1. It was noted quite sometime before this that Pollock had lost pace. His recent form has been poor. If he had played seventy Tests there would be argument for a break. The fact is the writing is on the wall after a century of Tests. There is going to be no big comeback after a break it might have its benefits for a short while but they will soon disappear.
2. Pollock will be a vital member to the World Cup side. He should concentrate on being fully rested for the World Cup and leave the Tests to younger players.
