Forthcoming Series - India vs West Indies

India should win this series both the tests and the ODIs.

This is the chance for Dhoni, Pathan, Harbhajan and Sehwag & co. that they can actually deliver outside of the sub-continent.

Odis yes, tests maybe

India will win the Odi series. But I'm not sure about the tests. India havent done very well in this form of the game recently. The bowlers will have to do better this time. It will be interesting to see who amongst Kumble and Bhajji will be the no.1 spinner. I think this is the sardar's best chance to come out of Kumble's shadows.

India should win both series. they have enough quality, and the West Indies are so scarce in quality, that it will look badly on Indi if they can't win. It really will reinforce the impression that they are 'home boys' only, a tag which they appeared to be shaking off when they played so well in Australia a couple of years ago.

The West Indies situation has been going from bad to worse for many years now, and the fact they have had to turn to Lara as captain again shows things are far from ideal. I'm sure Lara would prefer one of the younger guys to be able to take on the mantle. And a few players with a bit more application wouldn't go amiss.

I think we all fully expect India to dominate, the pitches will be very much like Indian home conditions so will suit the Indian batsmen I feel.

Hopefully we can see some consistency from the West Indian batsmen, especially Shivnarine Chanderpaul who really needs to get some runs on the board. Obviously, we expect Lara to make runs, but if he does not, then I think we could see some real thrashings IMO.

I reckon that we won't see a white wash from India as I think we'll see some lovely feather beds and get at least one draw.

I remember reading about the World Cup, that the pitches would be similar to in Asia, and I was quite surprised at the time. My impression has been the pitches in the West Indies are much more seamer-friendly than in Asia, with more bounce and movement. That's the impression I've got from seeing matches in the West Indies on TV. We probably need Ninjaman's help to get a definitive answer on this one. Are you out there, Ninj?

India's best chance

The pitches are a bit like those in the sub-continent but more seamer friendly. BTW, where is Merv Dillon? Cameron Cuffy, Vasbert Drakes, Nixon McClean, Tino Best & Jermaine Lawson?

West Indies will be totally dominated by India if they play like they did against a weak Zimbabwe.

If you look back to the Test series last year between Australia and West Indies you will note that the West Indian side managed to at least be in the match against Australia at home, facing Warne and MacGill when the ball is spinning and they were looking dangerous we saw a double hundred from Lara, an against-all-odds century partnership between Dwayne Bravo and Danesh Ramdin in which Bravo scored a century.

India's batting has never been seen as strong against pace bowling, IF the West Indian bowlers can get the ball in the right areas and at least get a bowler at each end not going at 5 an over and actually looking like taking wickets then we could see something from the West Indies.

I still full expect India to dominate, but I'd at least expect them to perform better in the test matches.

Allow me to generalise, if I may.

The pitches are more seamer-friendly than in Asia but not as quick and bouncy as they once were.

I expect India to win the ODI series but the Tests might offer something different.

Thanks, Ninjaman. I just have all these memories of the ball pinging around, and England betsmen walking off with broken fingers and blood-spattered shirts.
