Unhappy Vaughan to miss The Ashes 2006/07

CricInfo are reporting today that Michael Vaughan is almost certain to miss the Ashes series this winter, after confirming that yet another operation will keep him out for 4-6 months. This is the most devastating of blows to the England cause, added to the certain absence of Simon Jones and the possibility that Ashley Giles will struggle to be fit. So, it looks like either Andrew Flintoff or Andrew Strauss will lead England out at The Gabba et al this winter.

http://uk.cricinfo.com/ausveng/conte...ry/251829.html

I really wonder if this cricketing year can get any worse for England?

This leaves us with a probable Ashes XI of:

Trescothick
Strauss(*?)
Cook
Pietersen
Collingwood
Flintoff(*?)
Jones+
Plunkett/Anderson (at 10?)
Hoggard
Harmison
Panesar/Udal

England shouldn't even consider bringing Vaughan, Simon Jones or any other player who isn't fully fit. Learn from the lessons of the past.

But it's not looking good for England at all.

Certainly not in having the best possible side touring. Potentially a big loss in captaincy mainly, none of the replacements have looked to be up there so far and Trescothick is only now saying he would conisder taking it

Oh dear. If this is going to happen, we need a semi-permanent captain now.
The management need to decide who's in charge, be it Strauss, Trescothick, Flintoff or A.N Other.

I wouldn't like to take bets on whether Vaughan plays cricket again.

England will miss Vaughan's captaincy this winter. The side has looked leaderless all summer. Australia had already made themselves favourites by having a good spell while England went backwards. But the loss of Vaughan, Jones and Giles, plus maybe Anderson and anyone else who falls under the injury curse (will Freddie be fully fit?) means that it could be an old-style pasting down under.

Indeed. Can we just not turn up?

Ponting on telephone to Duncan Fletcher: "Where the ***** are you?!"
Fletcher: "Um, er, we missed the plane and there isn't another one for 3 years. Go to go! Bye."

Or, given some of the scepticism about how 'English' some of our players are, a 100% Saxon England team will play a 100% Australian (i.e. aboriginal) team. Goodness knows what the outcome of that would be ... but it would be a lot less predictable than Ponting & co wiping the florr with our youngsters.

You never know the Aussies might get some injuries as well yet to make it a bit of an even contest.I hope.

Well it's yer own fault that we have white blokes playing for us!!!!

This summer will be a disaster. England would've wished they get the two and a half year break in between series, rather than the one and a half.

Don't tell Cricket Australia, mate! Isn't it going to be "Australia's Greatest Ever Summer Of Cricket" or something? One thing's for sure: It's Definitely On. (Who the heck wrote their advertising copy?)
