Was Hair Tipped Off By Radio - By The 3rd Umpire?.

No I am not being silly it has happened before.

No one seems to want to talk about the ball tampering, I watched a News Conference by the Pakistan team officials on TV - and they are not commenting about that.

I have heard it said that Hair did not see any ball tampering, but maybe (and I mean maybe) the 3rd umpire did, and radio's a warning for Hair to be on the look out.

There is a precedence for this course of action here .
Could explain the silence.

EDIT: This was for umpires missing no balls, not ball tampering - but the principle is the same.

Well Ian Botham has said an interesting thing on Sky basically stating that there was about 15 minutes after the wicket of Cook and the ball being changed so it must have happened then if anything did happen because the umpires get given the ball when a wicket falls.

For the record Botham doubts anything happened as the cameras didn't pick anything up in that time and if something did happen it would be unlikely to have been missed with so many cameras in the ground.

It would be nice if there was a statement about the ball condition from an ICC spokesman but i very much doubt there will be in the coming days.

I agree Greg. If the 3rd umpire had picked up on something from 2.14 to 2.30, the cameras would surely also have picked it up. After all, there were 26 cameras to every 3rd umpire.

Think you are just speculating Ern.

There hasn't been any proof (apart from the Umpires call and the ball) that there was any tampering. Lets wait and see what happend after Inzi's hearing on Friday.

A player would be aware of the 26 cameras - and a camera can't see what's happening in a players hand.

I am not saying anything for sure, like flanflinger says I am speculating, but no-one will talk about this part of the saga, yet will talk about the match loss,

Ern, these aren't the days of Cornhill Insurance and cameras behind the batsman for alternate overs. These cameras can pick up just about everything. Look at the super-motion shots, you get every detail. And the players cannot be aware of 26 cameras all the time, where each camera is and what it is doing. It's humanly impossible unless you're some sort of 1970s sci-fi superhero ... and if you were one of those, you certainly wouldn't need to tamper with the ball.

Well I normally take binoculars to the game when I go as well, you get a better view of the action.

Maybe Tres was watching to see what footwork looks like?

Talking

1970's super hero, that would be Peitersen then
Alternatively we could come up with super names for the various players

Steve Harmison Why-Aye Man (Geordie joke for those who don't understand)
Monty "the flying turban" Panesar - (Hey I've seen the pictures of him leaping 3 feet in the air after capturing a wicket.)

Inzi - The incredible bulk (ooh I'm probably going to get stick for that.)

Freddy "Captain Caveman" Flintoff

Mohamed The Recluse (cos he don't get out much) Yousef

Shahid "Twinkle toes" Afridi (trouble again methinks.)

Kevin "The Streak" Peitersen (Calm down Rachel I'm referring to his hairstyle)

Any more guys?

BTW nice to get back to light hearted.
