Backing for Hair and Doctrove - from Simon Taufel

Well one umpire at least has made his voice known in who he supports in the PCB/Hair-doctrove saga.

Well if you read on it shows that really hair should not have been picked to umpire this series between England and Pakistan - who I wonder made this decission?.

No surprise to see one umpire backing his colleagues there, Ern. they are likely to look at this from an umpiring point of view, different to the perspective of the players, PCB or fans. So they're likely to agree with the umpiring decision, even leaving solidarity motives aside. I don't think Taufel is putting his head on the block, when you consider the stance the ICC has taken up. It's clear that the ICC will stand behind its umpires on this. Pakistan are the ones who have put themselves on the block by taking on the game's authorities.

Well sure, but another far more experienced former umpire has hinted that Hair & Co may have overreacted, ie Dickie Bird:

most of the past greats (both players and umpires in this case dickie)points out the flaw by the umpire darryl hair
his tone was said to be much of an authoritative one than a friendly senior pro when he said to inzi that if tema and inzi does not arrive in 2 minutes he will consider it as forfeiting of the match after the tea break
icc should atleast now wake up and take some wiseful action against the people who are insensitve and always there to create controversies(in this case hair)

I am not surprised that the Aussie media is all praise for Hair!

The support for Hair is only on the issue of awarding the match to England on the grounds of Pakistan team not coming on to the field. None of the articles have really tried to address the issue of how Hair handled the issue of ball-tampering.

As I have siad in another thread, Steve Waugh should keep his mouth shut. He is probably the one who has brought the game to disrepute on most occassions with his "sledging" tactics and always got away with it.

To be honest all the current panel are going to back the umpires as they will want to show a united front.Former umpires won't have to follow the party line so to speak.

Just one thing on Taufel defending Hair...

In an article I read, Taufel says: "Hair knows the laws of cricket better than anyone else"...

Well, I'd like to refer Mr Taufel back to last year. Eng vs Pak. HAIR gave Inzi out run-out, while Inzi was taking evasive action..

Yes. No-one knows the laws of cricket better than Darrell Hair...

And wasn't it Taufel that was standing with Hair in that test?

Aaahhh...the plot thickens...

(I'm being silly of course, I don't recall who was umpiring with Hair there..)
