Wasim Raja dies playing cricket

Former Pakistan batsman Wasim Raja has died while playing for Surrey Over 50s at High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. He was 54. He was also a ICC match referee.

"Wasim had a big heart attack on the field," said a Surrey spokesman. "He felt dizzy, and mentioned this to the slips, saying that he felt he had to go off. He was carried off but then collapsed on the boundary."

For those who don't know him here is link.

That's sad news, CC. I never saw him play, but he's clearly a hero to many people. I suppose the only consolation is that he dies doing something he enjoyed very much.

Yes the last time I heard of a player dying on the cricket pitch was when "Wilf Slack" collapsed some years ago, I think he had played for England a time or two.

while standing in a short leg he was hit by a ball swept very hardly on his head
immediately he went into coma

I want to echo everyone's comments regarding this. It really is a sad piece of news and really puts everything in perspective regarding the past few days' ridiculous events. I'm sure he did die doing what he loved - and that's playing cricket. I'm sure everybody's thoughts go out to his friends and family.

Ramiz rajas brother i think and the only raja who could play cricket!!!!!

Inna lilahi wa inna elaihi rajioon

that incase anyone misunderstands is a muslims prayer for the dead

but when i think bout it.. for him it was perhaps the perfect way to go!!!

and if it says anything for these boards this is the thread to see for a lot of people who think the west is against pak cricket, a pak cricket legend has just died and people honouring his memory are from all over the west!!!
