England vs India Women - Test Series Thread

Okay, we're into the second test between England Women and India Women, and it really should have some discussion on here. We are not here exclusively for the men's game, and English women's cricket really came to the fore in last year's Ashes victory at around the same timw as the men did the same job.

England won the first test last week, and have limited India to 60/2 after around 30 overs:

I watched the final two one-day matches last week and it was reasonable viewing, not much more though.

Taunton hosting this match is very good idea, shorter boundaries will make things easier than playing at Grace Road like they've had to do before!

India currently 146-2, Chopra and Raj (the two top order bats who impressed me the most in the one-dayers) sharing an unbroken century stand so far.

I wouldn't mind watching womens cricket if they didn't score at 2 an over. If run rates were similar to men's cricket it would be more entertaining to watch, but as it is, I don't watch it because it isn't that entertaining.

I think run rates (especially in one-day cricket which really is the centre of the women's game; 80% of all matches played are one-dayers or something along those lines) will go up if the boundaries are brought in for the women's game.

I am not trying to be offensive and say 'women are too weak to hit the ball that far'. There are some players who can hit the ball long, Karen Rolton of Australia can hit a few sixes when she wants to, but many of them struggle to hit it so far.

Maybe it's an easy answer but it would make it far more exciting.

Well, after yesterday we're up against it. Last time I checked we were 97/9 in reply to India's 307 all out. We'll do well to avoid an innings defeat but we did win the first test, so it seems this is a well-contested series.

LOL... I admire their cricket as well. But if you read some of the girls posts on here they also comment on the looks, especially a young Ashley Giles

I don't get the oppurtunity to see them on TV much either, so to see their cricket is harder

How do you think technique measures up? Men's cricket is like much of men's sport: dominated by players who ain't actually that technically accomplished but who can get away with it through sheer brawn.

Not that the alternative is ALWAYS better... and whilst Henin might be technically accomplished to a level that few of the male tennis players can match... we still see young female players who have got away with a 'get it in' serve right up to Grand Slam level.
