I'll hold him, you hit him
Who will ever know what torment Tresco endured at the crease against crickets marquis de sade and his understudy being messers McGrath and Lee during his brief spell at the crease during the tour match against New South Wales.
McGrath a world reknowned heavy weight champion sledger, and Lee a wannabe over willing to fill Glenn's boots. Even as an Australian the worst case scenario I could dream this pair would come up with is probably a long way short of how low they probably went to in reality.
In a way I will be glad to see the end of mega G and his mega mouth and hopefully the next generation like Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait will let their bowling do the talking.
And maybe Brett will back off as well.

I Agree 100% that Mcgrath has a big mouth but we really dont know as you have said what happened that day. I doubt if his comments can make a man go into phycological shock. Offcourse this is debatable so unless Tresco says something we cant say anything about it can we?

youd have thought that pidgeon would have learned his lesson after the whole Eddo Brandes 'incident,' but obviously not, and its a dirty tactic, that has served the aussies well over the years. Im not condoning it, but there is almost no way that it can be stopped for good.
The batsmen have to put up with it, and stand their ground or so to speak.
I suppose that the likes of McGrath have to learn to act like a man, and let his undoubted talent do the talking.

still, i dont think many batsmen would have come up with a quick reply like the one Eddo Brandes did...

Ooh Aah

Best sledge i heard about was the one Sarwan gave back to big mouth glen, unprintable but certainly very funny. It certainly got to that rather unpleasant man.
Its a shame hes so objectionable ,as he is a fantastic bowler.
Funny thing is i wonder if i would dislike him so much if he was English or Welsh?

Well even if McGrath was a little chatty with him, surely Trescothic, as an experienced test cricketer would be used to it all by now.For god's sake - sad? I remember when my grandma died when i was a young bloke i got sad, but i then just pulled up my socks and got on with it. Maybe that's what his team-mates should have told him to do rather than letting him go home. Once he scored a few runs he would have been right as rain i reckon.

Being a bit unsympathetic there Seamer, Tres clearly has mental health problems and doesn't need people belittling that. Having worked with disabled students at university I learned a lot about mental health, including the dismissive attitudes of those who believe that there is no problem just because they don't see it. Further to that, how on Earth is being an experienced test cricketer supposed to prepare you for a breakdown?!!! Everybody loses people close to them, I have and it hurt a lot, but I can't imagine what having a breakdown must feel like and I have every sympathy for Tres just as I would if it happened to an Aussie player or anyone else for that matter. I would have hoped you would too, rather than adopting that "just tell him to cheer up" mentality.

agree

Colly,
good shout mate.
Depression as you state is a condition which can not be seen, and the "pull your socks up"advice is not ideal!
Unfortunately i believe Tres test career is now over, and your mate Collingwood has a tremendous chance now,a chance i believe he will relish as hes a tough little bugger.

I have sympathy for Trescothick as clearly he has mental problems but, at the same time sledging is part of cricket and if a few words from Grandpa Glenn is enough to tip him over the edge then he shouldn't have been on the plane in the first place as he was clearly too fragile.

I have to say that Tresco was fair game for a bit of ribbing in my opinion, obviously we will never find out how far it went but as he had said he was fine then it is open season to take the mickey. Now that he has gone home i would expect that any person with a heart who had given him stick would send a message to Tresco wishing him well in the future.

The Aussies haven't exactly slagged him off since he went home once they knew the severity of his situation, all i have seen is them saying how big a blow it is to England so they aren't all bad.

I was'nt belittling the man Colly. I truly like and admire Trescothic and hope he gets back on track. I just question the wisdom of sending him home like that. If the guy is depressed, surely going home and sitting around the house staring at the ceiling is not the best option, in fact, would'nt that make the situation worse? I hope he gets back on track in any case and he has my best wishes.
