The Tennis Thread

Please use this thread to discuss any avent from the world of men's or women's tennis.

Out of the present lot I'm a fan of Lleyton Hewitt and anyone playing against Roddick.

Latest news from the ATP tour is that rather sadly for me Hewitt was thrashed by Federer yet again in the final of the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells.
Federer went into the final on the back of six consecutive wins over Hewitt so things haven't exactly been going according to plans of late against him, but then Federer has been beating any one and everyone off late. I'm started to get worried about Lleyton though (only a little), he's lost a few finals of late, the aussie open final, the us open final, the tennis master's cup final, three from the top of my mind. I hope this is just something temporaray. But then, even reaching the finals it self is good enough result, and especially since it comes after beating someone like Roddick in the semis, he's sooo not in my good books.

The women's version was won by Hewitt's ex fiance Kim Clijsters, who announced her arrival back from a long injury lay off with a win against American Linsay Davenport.

Sorry Zainub, but I honestly cannot stand Lleyton, although i'll admit he is a pretty good player.

I support Federer and Safin personally, both have a game based on natural flair which really appeals to me in any sport. As for the womens draw, I just can't watch womens tennis for some reason, it seems to be a class below quality wise.

You don't need to be sorry, I can completely understand. I haven't come across many who seem to like Lleyton. I think I can live with that as long as he gets the credit for how he plays, which he does. Latest on him is that he's pulled out of the Nasdaq Open.

Natural flair is good to watch, but sometimes you've got to add other things to the mix to win major titles. Your concerns about Women's Tennis are also completely understanable, all that seems to count now-a-days is power. Sometimes I think I might as well put on a few stones of fat and muscle and next thing you know I'll win a grand slam. Oh yes, I forgot, I'd probably have to learn to consistently scream at the top of my voice and yet not go dumb too.

Zainub

Did you know Lleyton took Kim out to dinner while at the ATP Indian Wells tournament.

Stand by for Romeo & Juliet part 2 "After the rebound" , I suppose they are used to the rebound considering so many matches are now played on "rebound ace" surfaces.

No I didn't. I'm a little confused. Hewit's engaged to someone else, some actress down in Australia (Beny said she acted in a pathetic soap opera). I can't seem to recall her name right now right here, but I'm confused all right. I don't care who he goes out with as long as he stays happy and all this doesn't affect his performances. For the record though, I was saddenned by their surprise break up in the first place. I always thought they complemented each other well.

He is engaged to Bec Cartright who was the winner of last years "dancing with the stars" the surprise ball room dancing number 1 rating tv show over here at the moment.

With him taking ex girlfriend Kim out and his Davis Cup teamate "the poo" (Mark Phillipousas) getting engaged to an American billionare real estate tycoons 18 year old daughter, its all getting a bit surreal in the mens tennis scandals here at the moment.
Throw in our icon ex Davis cup captain John Newcombes drunken night out in the mid 70's that saw his offsider a young George W Bush get arrested intoxicated. Lleyton and the Poo still have to get a bit wilder to emualate past Aussie mens tennis hero's exploits.

French Open 2005-Thread!

Is anybody following the proceedings at the Roland Garros?! I am! And am rooting for Roger Federer to win it this year and complete his Grand Slam! His biggest challenger is ofcourse Rafael Nadal! And when the surface is clay you can never leave Gustavo Kuerten out of contention! The we also have last years finalists Coria & Gaudio...but I believe Federer should pull it off this year! Have really no idea as to who is the top-contender amongst the ladies-the competion is even more intense for them!

Well I am rooting for the same guy I supported during the Aussie Open, the one and only Marat Safin.I hope he pulls it off.I was hoping for some fireowrks from Richard Gasquet but it was not be.I personally would love to see a Safin vs Roddick final but I dont know how it'll turn out.Go Safin Go! In the females,im rooting for both Clijsters and Davenport. Its a pity we wont have an all Williams final.I miss them nowadays.

Gasquet was steam-rolled by Nadal! And Roddick is gone already! How about another Federer vs Safin final?!

Not too interested to be honest, I'm only interested in Wimbledon or Aus Open, but I think we all know that Nadal is a shoe in.
