Short posts and text speak

There has been a noticable drop in the quality of the threads recently for a couple of reasons:

1) Some members are posting far too many short, irrelevant, uninteresting posts. Some banter is desirable on the appropriate forums to convey a friendly tone on the board but too much banter on forums meant for serious cricket discussion is spoiling those threads. Please remember that many members and guests want to read intelligent, thoughful observations about cricket issues. Banter doesn't make good reading and can annoy people who go to the trouble of opening a post hoping to find something interesting to read only to find three or four words of banter.

Another issue relating to posts is the database space they take up. Each post holds 15 fields of information in the post table. The text message is just one field. Every time a post is created 15 fields of associated information is created. To conserve server space please don't post unnecessarily. If you like banter then use the Chat Room more often. A good occasion to use the Chat Room is when a match is in progress. If you're watching the match why not meet there to discuss the action?

2) The other problem which is growing is use of abbreviated words commonly associated with mobile phone texting. Example: "u r" instead of "you are"; "coz" instead of "because". Please don't use texting abbreviations in your posts. Consider that people will enjoy reading your posts more if your words are properly spelt.

about text abbreviations

well i know your point about text abbrievations and short uninteresting posts and i completly agree with it, but sometimes, mainly after i have been fiddling with my mobile phone with my girlfriend or friends(well you dont have to know this, but i feel you should) i always seem to type some text abbrievations in my message, for example a lot of the time, i type 'u' instead of 'you' and 'r' instead of 'are', i dont mean to, i just forget, i will try and remember this of course but sometimes i cant help myself, i just want you to understand this.

It's quite awful, over the holiday's when people have talked on chat services in txt speak. They return to school and start writing their work in text speak. One person in my class actually wrote a mini essay in that style and got 0 marks for their language.
