PDC World Darts Championships

It's the final of the PDC world darts championships final tonight. Currently Phil Taylor is beating Peter Manley 3-0 and "THE POWER" is looking on top form. He's playing brilliantly at the moment. When will his reign end, so long it may continue IMO. Just post anything to do with darts in this thread. Either PDC or BDO. (Just to clarify, this part added later...Phil Taylor beat Peter Manley 7-0 to win the title, a great performance from "THE POWER".)

BDO World Championship

Shock horror, a lot of the big names are out in the first round! Ted Hankey just didn't look up for it on Saturday, Andy Fordham (overrated) still isn't at the form he was when he won the title in '04, Ray Barneveld just scraped though unconvincingly... What's going on???

BDO World Champ.

I think they start with too short games. best of 5 IMO is too short for a world chamionship. PDC is best of 7 which allows players who are playing below par to get going.

So far most of the players that have won the first set have gone on to win the game. I think that the players have most likely not practiced as much over the festive season and are just not prepared enough. Also John Walton lost 3-0, another shock, he's never been out in the first round before.

And now that you've gone and said that...Mervyn King wins first set in second round against Jelle Klassen, then loses!

Klassen does look good though. Once he gets going he's hitting 100+ every shot. And his checking out isn't too bad either.

a question

what is the difference between the 'World Darts championship' on the Sky Sports (where Phil 'THE POWER' Taylor won it) and 'World Profesional Darts championship' on the BBC??? are they separate tournements where the people who didn't make it to the 'World Darts championship' played in the 'World Profesional Darts championship'. i say this because i never see the great players like Phil Taylor, Manley, Lloyd, Part, Priestley, Baxter...ETC compete in this tournement

There used to be just one World Championship.

Then some of the players wanted a better deal or such delights and others didn't.

So they split formed their own body, the PDC and now we have 2 world darts torunaments.

For what its worth, Taylor wins both easily and anyone who reached say the quarters of the PDC tournament is a legitimate winner of the BBC version shown on the BBC.

From what I've been told. There was a non-televised tournament where both BDO and PDC players could participate. The final was contested by Rayon Van Barneveld and Phil Taylor. So reaching the quarter finals in PDC would probably not win you the BDO title. There are some good players, however I do believe the standard in PDC is much higher.
