Click here to see a 14 minute highlights package of one of the greatest ODIs of all-time. Bill Lawry calls the final over: "Can you believe that? I cannot believe it!" Lawry was also the caller at the time of the infamous under-arm delivery.

Trivia (Source: Wikipedia):

Quote:
Bill Lawry played his only ODI in the first ODI that was played on 5 January 1971 between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. When the first three days of the third Test were washed out officials decided to play a one-off one day game consisting of 40 eight-ball overs per side. Australia won the game by 5 wickets.

Lawry was unceremoniously dumped as captain and player for the 6th and final test of the 1970/71 Ashes series in Australia. Lawry had failed to post a century in his final three series as captain and had averaged just 32.86 from 28 innings in that time. Lawry's dumping is regarded as one of the poorer incidents in Australian cricket. Lawry was not informed personally of the selectors' decision; the decision was first broadcast on radio and he only became aware of his fate when confronted by reporters.

HAHA!!!

Absolute gold! Hilarious when the NZ bloke throws his bat. I wish they hadn't of chucked all these new rules in cricket. TTFC's version of how cricket should be played is about right.

"Pipe-Smoking Captain"- Couldn't agree more.
"Drunk left arm spinner"- Well any improvement on current SLA bowlers would do!!!

Ahh, the good old days of cricket.

I may have read about this in another thread, but please re-enlighten me. Or is it just the Captain and SLA bit - surely there's more to it?

Sure.

Finally, one of the openers should actually be a Lord, and will have his pads put on by a manservant, and the wicket keeper will wear fillet steak in his gloves, supplied by a member of the crowd, who gets it back after play, nicely tenderised.

Now thats how cricket should be played, it would be far less trouble and a lot more fun!!!!!!!!!!
That, is how cricket should played.

I've now got tears of laughter streaming down my face. Wel done TTFC, and to Paoli for bringing it to my attention. What thread was that in - I'd actually not read it before.

The thread can then return to its original purpose - sorry for hijacking it, but hey, it's been worthwhile.

The quote was from this thread here which was whether Harmi should shave more? The original under arm ball was quite hilarious. Just watching the ball roll down the picth is hilarious.
