Imran Khan house arrest

Even as a self described right wing white with loose christian beleif's I am disgusted with this, stuff George Bush

Bush visit 'prompts Imran Khan's house arrest'

There are reports Pakistani police have placed opposition politician and former cricket legend Imran Khan under house arrest.

A spokeman for Mr Khan says the arrest comes ahead of a planned protest against the visit of US President George W Bush.

Saifullah Khan Nyazee, a spokesman for Mr Khan's Movement for Justice party told AFP, Mr Khan was leaving a friend's house in the early hours of Saturday when police served him with a detention order.

Mr Nyazee said police then drove Mr Khan to his house overlooking a lake near Islamabad and around a dozen policemen were standing guard to stop him leading the planned rally in nearby Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile anti-United States Islamist parties have promised more protests as Mr Bush prepares to round off a South Asian tour.

Mr Bush has been urging President General Pervez Musharraf to do more in the war on terrorism.

Mr Bush arrived in Islamabad a day after a suicide car bomber killed an American diplomat and two other people outside the US consulate in the southern city of Karachi.

Mr Bush met General Musharraf at the President's heavily guarded compound.

Islamist Pakistani politicians, some of whom have ties with Pakistani militant groups as well as Taliban insurgents fighting US forces in Afghanistan, succeeded in paralysing the country yesterday with a widely observed strike call.

While Mr Bush now calls General Musharraf his "buddy", they were only brought together by the September 11, 2001, Al Qaeda attacks on the United States.

That was when Mr Bush forced Pakistan to drop support for the Taliban and the country became a US ally after years of being shunned because of its covert nuclear program.

I know Bush will think it's right for him to visit Asia so he can see what's going on, but really the time when he was anything like welcome in that part of the world has long gone. Anyone living from Palestine to Pakistan will be justified in feeling that it's an insult to have George Bush present in their country. He's getting the western world a very bad name. We're not all like him, honestly!

That's the problem, he's in one of the most powerful positions in the world and most of the world don't like him. Clearly after everything that has gone on I am not surprised there were to be protests etc. but it's not right stopping people from going out just so someone that most people don't like can swan around and make a new "buddy".

Vrock, your annoyance on this issue goes some way towards explaining why there is so much anger in Asia at the moment. Here in Britain, we aren't the focus of Bush's cack-handed attacks on anything that he doesn't like or, more usually, doesn't understand. And yet even we can see how insulting and damaging his actions and comments are. I can only try and imagine how people must feel in the countries Bush has attacked, without trying to understand the situation properly beforehand. Bush has grown up with a very narrow world view, gained in Texas, where for many people, things seem to be done a certain way and to hell with the rest of the world. You can't attack people's way of life and challenge their integrity, and expect them not to feel angry and offended. Bill Clinton may not have been a great human being in many ways, but he was about as good a US President as the rest of the world could have hoped for. At least he had his eyes open and had more than one perspective.

I really don't care where Bush goes, be it Pakistan the UK or the South Pole..

He just is not important enough in my eyes to bother, and to be honest had I been a Pakistani citizen, I would have just ignored him rather than making him seem even more imporant.

I don't want this to sound offensive to any pro-george bush people. But I am thankful that an American president can only have two terms.

Sadly Ern, this isn't the case. Innocent people have died in many countries: Iraq, Afghanistan, the US, the UK, Spain, Indonesia. And although it was the work of terrorists, their actions came about to some extent because of the policies of George Bush. Whether we like it or not, he has had a massive influence on the current world climate, albeit a very negative effect.

Bush plays cricket!

Looks the the American president had some fun meeting some of Pakistan's cricketers and having a little knock about in the nets and a bowl! He was hit on the shoulder by Inzi! BBC Link here.

I think he should stick to the baseball than cricket.

Wink

My respect for Inzi fell the moment i saw him standing with his hands clasped tummy high watching in awe as bush bumbled with the bat... well i dont expect him (Bush) to do much more than that.. he has been bumbling ever since he stepped into the most powerfull seat in the world, and yes we tried to ignore him but the state media and its lackeys would not let us pakistanis forget how honoured we are supposed to be that he attended a banquet in our country, to add further humilation to the sub continent, and yes i do view us as one land (pak and india) he booked le meredian hotel in delhi for HIS DOGS 65 of them. I dont have anything against canines but in this culture.. one couldnt feel more insulted when 90% of our populations cant afford a one night stay in a hotel which is hired by the visiting head of a foreign state for his dogs.... lovely that!
the dogs royal stay link http://www.newsdissector.org/blog/20...in-south-asia/

As far as Imran is concerned, i think he made a major mistake when he stepped into politics... true we need honest striahgt talking men, but im sorry Imran is not one of them. A person who couldnt share his glory in a meglomaniac moment after winning the world cup with his hard working team, couldnt do much for a country!
Leaders dont say things like "I DID IT" its not really very good for team morale
